Marian College Kuttikkanam Autonomous

Marian College Kuttikkanam Autonomous was founded in 1995 and is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala. It is owned and managed by the Catholic Diocese of Kanjirappally through the Peermade Development Society. Marian has a unique and enviable history that it gained autonomy in a span of 20 years. Marian at present offers 20 programmes, including doctoral programmes with a total student strength of about 2440.

Marian holds the envious distinction of being the youngest accredited College in India in 2003 and currently holds a re-accreditation with a CGPA of 3.52/4 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The College also won the prestigious status of the College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) from the University Grants Commission (UGC) twice in 2009 and 2014. It was conferred autonomous status in May 2016 and was ranked 84th in NIRF 2018.

Marian has a glorious tradition of academic excellence proven through University ranks and high placements. The College has academic tie-ups with several renowned international Universities like Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lincoln University College Malaysia etc. Marian imparts information with the intention of the right character formation of the students, eventually achieving their holistic transformation. As a premier centre of knowledge generation and empowerment, Marian has always been on the forefront to take up new academic and co- academic initiatives.

From its inception, Marian ensured high standards of quality in all pursuits. The wholehearted support from an array of passionate and learned instructors helped Marian to reach exalted academic heights. The students are cared for at a personal level and this has paved way for a warm relationship between students and their teachers.

The uniquely blended programmes, offered with absolute sense of dedication to social justice, prepare the students for the challenges that await them in their future. Marian is a happening campus creating transformative opportunities for students to develop artistic and literary talents, life skills, personal health and well-being, thus ensuring a collaborative environment open to free exchange of ideas. The hostels are managed by priests and nuns helping the inculcation of a humane value system. The institution is free of party politics and has a history of being a zero-strike campus from its inception.

The efforts to enhance teaching effectiveness through ICT integration has made teaching learning process at Marian more individualized, creative and dynamic. After the conferral of autonomy, Marian has evolved into a completely ICT enabled institution with reforms aimed at qualitative improvement in the process of teaching learning. Most of the classrooms are equipped with digital boards which facilitate our students to interact with teachers and experts anywhere on globe.

IT integration in the examination system guarantees the confidentiality and accountability of the entire examination process which is an important component of the credibility and success of the College. Automated question paper generation, partial automation of paper valuation, timely publication of results, etc. are some of the salient features of the system. When we moved into the Outcome Based mode of Education in 2019, all the Semester End Examinations were automated.

The College is located 3500 feet above sea level, in a misty location where the temperature ranges from 150 C to 250 C. The sprawling tea and cardamom plantations in the high ranges give an ideal green locale conducive for learning. Nature exquisitely complements the institutional climate of Marian.


The Catholic Diocese of Kanjirappally, has always been committed towards positive social interventions for the betterment of the society at large. Helmed by the visionary and youthful Bishop Mar Jose Pulickal, the Diocese has an envious track record across a broad range of educational and social service activities.

Imparting quality education to the masses has always been the primary concern of the Christian Missionary effort, and Marian College Kuttikkanam Autonomous is an endeavour towards the fulfilment of that concern. The secular student community of Marian is a true embodiment of brotherhood and a reflection of the spirit of Christianity. The commitment of the Management has always sustained the academic quality endeavors of the College through timely investment in infrastructure and learning resources which helps to create an academic environment which is inclusive, sensitive and responsive to the needs of our stakeholders.

The concern of the Management for the financially challenged students has resulted in awarding a number of Scholarships and Grants for the eligible and needy students. The Diocese efficiently concentrates on the intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical formation of the students thereby creating a generation capable of taking up the challenges of the new era.
